A Fond Farewell

So the latest fun thing around the Coffey household is the myriad of caterpillars crawling around.  The kids love to catch and keep them as pets.  Georgia recently caught one, and kept it in a jar.  It  survived the night (a minor miracle considering the amount of crap she stuffed in that jar with it) and the next day we put it into a little type of bug cage - really just some netting with a zipper to keep the bugs in.  Well, after her nap Georgia was looking for the caterpillar.  She unzipped the netting and was moving twigs around to find it.  I went to do something in the yard, and when I returned, Georgia was standing uncharacteristically still with her hands behind her back, staring at the cage.  I asked her what happened.  Georgia: The caterpillar is stuck
Me: Where?
Georgia: In the zipper.
I approached the scene of the accident to find half of the caterpillar on the ground below the cage, and the other half stuck in between the teeth of the zipper.
Me: What happened?
Georgia: He was trying to get out so I closed it and he got stuck.

So sad.  Goodbye, future butterfly.  Some photos to honor your memory.  And your caregiver/death-bringer.
